What does LOVE look like to you?
My Self and Identity professor had us journal about this topic one week and it has been one of my favorite questions ever since.
It's an interesting question because love is so personal. You can't define it or put it in a box and say, 'This is what love looks like. Period.' Love doesn't work like that. It takes shape and manifests in different ways that work for us. We each give, receive and perceive love differently and this is beautiful.
Will Darbyshire is a filmmaker and YouTuber that I have admired for a while. His art connects with his audience differently than most YouTubers because he takes the time to explore personal thoughts and doesn't shy away from big life questions. He likes to go deeper.
To talk about love is an opportunity to be vulnerable. Will asked his audience to submit their thoughts on love by answering a few questions and after receiving thousands of submissions, he compiled these into a book. The book, This Modern Love, was a space for people to be vulnerable about their own experiences with love. While this book focused on relationships and the romantic sense of love, reading is an opportunity to think about our own views. I just really appreciated that people were so open to sharing and that sparked my own thoughts about love.
Love is such a curious concept. I frequently ask about love, but I don't always take the time to put words to my own thoughts and feelings about it. That's probably going to be another journal entry for another time :)
