Today we wear our 'I Voted' stickers with pride because, regardless of individual beliefs, we actively participated in moving forward with a future we believe in.
Thinking about this, I am a little disappointed with myself. I have dreams, aspirations and a vision for a brighter future, but I've been lazy. Apathetic really, and I've taken my place in the world for granted.
I think physically pressing into the ballot shook me. Though I've been reminded before, submitting my vote today means my beliefs matter. I chose to act and I am coming to terms with the fact that not just today, but each day I wake up is an opportunity to practice my beliefs.
Today I voted for who I believe should be President of the United States. How I treat tomorrow and the days that follow will be another vote for the world I wish to see.
In this grand vision for the future, a lot is out of my hands. Earth will continue to revolve around the sun. Time will pass and the ways of the world will change whether I like it or not. Despite all that I can't control, there is still a choice: Life can influence me or I can influence life.
As citizens of this world, we must all recognize the value of our voice. Grab a pen, take your brush, pick up however you prefer to be heard and take a stand for what you believe in. Be informed, participate in the conversation and act. Progress and never settle because we can all be change makers.
If you haven't already, vote today. Vote every day.
