One of my best friends, Ben, came to visit yesterday so naturally we hit up a couple breweries, caught up on life and watched the World Series game. He's a die-hard Cubs fan... It's a big deal.
Ben was telling me about daily post-grad life back home and mentioned a new habit he started in an effort to find meaning in each decision he makes. Recently, every morning and before he does anything really, he asks himself, 'why?'
He said that, 'WHAT questions give a sense of direction and WHY questions give a sense of purpose.'
He has been exploring the reasons behind the decisions he makes each day and I found that so interesting. So many choices, big or small, are influenced by our routine or outside factors and we often don't consider why we do what we do. By taking the time to pause and find the value in all of his choices, Ben is practicing presence of mind and living intentionally and I really like that.
I want to find the value in each moment and reminding myself to ask why is a new way for me to continue living with purpose. Thanks Ben and let's go Cubbies!
