˜ "I built a YouTube channel with two other guys called The Lacrosse Network. I've been on camera every Monday consistently for the past two and a half years and I never thought I'd be on camera, be on YouTube and now we have 120,000 subscribers who will tune in every Monday to hear us talk and answer questions. Just that experience of meeting people you don't know, but feel like they know you is really fascinating. I was on vacation with my family and this little kid who was biking with his family stops and has to talk to me. I never expected stuff like that to happen and I'm by no means famous, but with the way that the internet works, there are niche audiences all over and people will find you.
Our channel is everything about lacrosse, but it's very community based. It's YouTube, so you don't have the same rights that ESPN might have to talk about and use the footage, but what you do have on YouTube is the opportunity to connect as the everyday fan. Sometimes that can be more powerful than someone who is trying to relate to a pro, who is this amazing figure who seems maybe untouchable.
For me, this is another way to talk to people and you're not sure how many it's going to be. It's a really exciting opportunity every time you create to sit back and see how many people we could actually get to talk to this time. Who gets to hear it? Who finds it? I think that's what really drives me; trying to make things that resonate with as many people as possible." ˜
It was awesome to hear how Colin and his friends are working to create a community through social media and The Lacrosse Network! Check them out on Instagram: @lacrossenetwork @thecollieollie
