This is my friend Ammar.
Ammar is one of four guys, from four different countries that make up Yes Theory; a group of guys with the shared philosophy of choosing adventure, saying yes to new experiences and spreading positivity.
Thomas is from France, Matt is from the United States, Derin is from Turkey and Ammar is from Egypt.
Ammar and I met a couple weeks ago at a party, but yesterday I got the chance to do a Dreams Over Drinks conversation with him and he shared his story. As we explored his dreams, his passions and his experiences with Yes Theory, one thing he said really struck me. He told me that a belief very close to his heart was promoting love over fear. I then asked him what love looked like to him and what conquering fear looked like and he shared with me the most incredible story.
Last year the guys were living in Montreal, Canada and when they heard about the terror attacks in Paris, it really hit home. Through hate and fear, the attacks by ISIS were designed to divide us. They recognized that if people didn't stand together, then ISIS would win; so they started #loveoverfear. The boys stood, hand in hand, in the center of a busy Montreal Metro Station wearing shirts that represented their nationalities. Matt from New York standing next to Ammar, a Muslim from Egypt, standing next to Thomas from France; united by love and friendship against hate. The video they created went viral and inspired thousands of people to stand in unity in support of #loveoverfear.
This emotional story is a perfect example of the power of individuals to fight against hate. Hate will never drive us apart. Only love will win.
Ammar is an inspiration and I look forward to getting to know him and the rest of the Yes Theory guys better. Go ahead and follow them on social media @Yestheory and keep up with their next projects. These guys are up to great things!
Here is their #loveoverfear video. I highly recommend watching. https://youtu.be/1lYPBwZdJ8U
